Some of the Gaelic speaking inhabitants of the Clyde River area would have been members of the Church of Scotland under the controversial Rev. Donald McDonald (see http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/mcdonald_donald_1783_1867_9E.html, and David Weale’s article in the Island Magazine). Angus McFadyen on the Bannockburn Road was an elder in the McDonaldite church.
